Palmetto man and Bradenton teen charged in fatal shooting of 17-year-old, deputies say
Deputies have arrested a Palmetto man and a Bradenton teen after a fatal shooting at a Sarasota park.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened on Nov. 3 during an “after-hours” party at Twin Lakes Park, a recreation center in Sarasota. The shooting killed a 17-year-old boy, the sheriff’s office said.
Carlos Romero-Tomas, 19, of Palmetto, was arrested on Feb. 6 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm in public and giving false information concerning the commission of a crime, according to the sheriff’s office.
The agency said a Bradenton teenager was arrested on Jan. 23 with assistance from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. The teenager is charged with aggravated battery, discharging a firearm in public, carrying a concealed weapon and armed trespass, according to a news release. The sheriff’s office has not publicly released the teenager’s name.
The investigation continues and additional charges are expected, according to the sheriff’s office.
