Parrish man faces federal charges for possessing firearms as a felon, prosecutors say
A Parrish man faces federal charges after prosecutors say he illegally possessed multiple firearms despite being a convicted felon.
A federal grand jury indicted Jason Peterson, 29, on two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida announced. Peterson faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison on each count if convicted.
Prosecutors say Peterson illegally possessed three firearms, including a Smith & Wesson, a Bauer and a Rossi, despite knowing he was prohibited from having them due to his prior felony convictions.
Peterson’s criminal history includes multiple offenses, such as battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, delivery of a controlled substance, felony littering and two separate convictions of battery on a law enforcement officer, according to court records.
Peterson faced more legal trouble in January when deputies arrested him and charged him with aggravated battery and false imprisonment after he allegedly beat a woman and held a knife to her throat.
Peterson also faces additional battery and firearm charges in Manatee County, according to court records.
