Argument at Bradenton gas station ends with a man being run over by a car, police say

An argument at a Bradenton gas station turned violent when a man reportedly ran over another person with his car, police said.

Peter Sampson, 51, is accused of running over another man with his car following a fight at the Marathon gas station, 2009 14th St. W., Bradenton, around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Bradenton Police Department.

Police say Sampson and the victim, who arrived at the gas station separately, got into an argument inside the store. The dispute spilled into the parking lot, where Sampson allegedly retrieved a hatchet from his car and threatened the man.

According to a news release, Sampson then got into his vehicle and ran over the man before driving away. The man was hospitalized with a broken leg and other injuries, police say.

Police arrested Sampson Wednesday morning on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, according to the release.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
