Hit-and-run crash kills Bradenton man, police say. Now they’re looking for the driver
Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened Saturday night in Bradenton.
The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. along 15th Street West between 12th Avenue West and 14th Avenue West, the Bradenton Police Department said in a social media post.
Police say a driver in a black sedan was speeding north on 15th Street when he lost control of his car. The car hit a pole and then hit and killed a man who was sleeping near the sidewalk, police said.
The driver ran away from the scene, police said.
On Sunday, Bradenton police spokesperson Meredith Censullo identified the victim as a Bradenton man in his 20s who was known to stay in the area. Censullo said the man was sleeping in a grassy area between the sidewalk and a fence near the Salvation Army when he was hit.
“The victim has family locally, and they have been notified,” Censullo said. Police did not provide his name.

Police are still looking for the driver who was behind the wheel during the crash.
Censullo said police have the car and will be searching it for evidence.
“We are looking for a person known to drive that vehicle for questioning,” Censullo said. “If that person can’t be located we may need the public’s assistance and will release more information.”
