Mother pepper-sprayed foster parents and kidnapped her children, Manatee deputies say

A 40-year-old woman has been arrested after kidnapping her biological children from their foster parents in Bradenton, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say Lachina Cropes, pepper-sprayed the foster parents before taking her two sons Sunday afternoon and driving to Georgia.

“Lachina does not have custodial rights to the children and took them without permission,” deputies said in a news release.

According to a news release, the Georgia State Patrol located and arrested Cropes Monday.

The 10-year-old and 8-year-old children were unharmed, deputies say.

The sheriff’s office said Cropes is charged with two counts of interference of child custody and two counts of battery.

Further information about Cropes’ arrest was not immediately available Monday afternoon.
