The Bradenton Police Department is investigating after an officer found a 16-year-old who was shot to death on Palma Sola Causeway early Saturday.

Around 1 a.m., police responded to a report of gunshots in the 8600 block of Manatee Avenue West and discovered Martavious Carter, 16, deceased, according to a news release. Investigators say they believe Carter was picked up from a different part of Manatee County and “driven to a secluded area” where the shooting happened.

The investigation shut down traffic on the Manatee Avenue Bridge and Palma Sola Causeway for several hours early Saturday. The road reopened around 5:30 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing and a suspect has not been arrested, according to a news release.
