A Bradenton man is charged with extorting and threatening his former employer after he was fired, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida announced Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Jeffrey John Borho, 38, made threatening phone calls and sent text messages and videos to his former employer and his former employer’s wife after he was fired from his job. According to court records, Borho was arrested on July 19.

In the phone calls and messages, prosecutors say Borho threatened to kill the owner of the company and the owner’s wife if he didn’t give him $10,000, $20,000 and then $100,000.

Borho sent videos of himself threatening to harm the owner, saying “(expletive) with me again and I’ll kill you easily” and “I don’t sue people, I kill people. And I get away with it every (expletive) time. Praise God, you’re on my time now,” according to court documents.

In one instance, detectives say Borho sent a message asking for $10,000 and included his Venmo username, saying “On Venmo or die.”

Around the same time that Borho allegedly threatened his former employer, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office sent deputies to Borho’s house on July 4 after receiving reports that he was threatening to kill his neighbors. After arriving, deputies decided to hospitalize Borho under the Baker Act, according to court documents.

Borho faces charges of extortion by interstate communication and interstate communication of a threat to injure, according to court documents.

Prosecutors said Borho is ordered to be detained until his trial.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
