A Bradenton man has been arrested after a woman was injured during a Thursday night shootout at a Bradenton mobile home park, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Deputies with the sheriff’s office responded to Sunny Shores Mobile Home Park in the 3900 block of 116th St. W. at around 8 p.m. Thursday after a domestic argument escalated into a shootout, the agency said in a news release.

Detectives said Kevin R. Armstrong confronted a 33-year-old woman after she arrived on a golf cart to retrieve personal items.

According to a news release, Armstrong and the woman had been involved in a domestic relationship and he had slapped the woman in the face earlier that evening.

During the argument, detectives say Armstrong grabbed a shotgun and fired at the woman as she tried to get away with two men who came with her to retrieve the items.

As Armstrong shot in her direction, detectives say one of the men with the woman grabbed a handgun from their parked golf cart and fired shots at Armstrong.

During the exchange of gunfire, detectives say the woman was “struck with a projectile” in her chest.

The injured woman and two men fled the area and drove the golf cart to the intersection of 119th Street West and 45th Ave. W in the Village of Cortez.

When deputies arrived at the trailer park to confront Armstrong, he was hiding inside his mobile home before he gave himself up and allowed deputies to take him into custody, according to a news release.

Deputies met with the injured woman and two men on the golf cart at 45th Avenue and the injured woman was taken to Blake Hospital, where she remains in stable condition, according to a news release.

Armstrong is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and battery and remains in custody at the Manatee County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office website.

According to a 2021 arrest report, Armstrong was previously charged with domestic violence after he was accused of punching a woman in the face. Court records show he pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 12 months of probation.
