Severe weather in Manatee County and the surrounding areas is causing cancellations.

Saturday’s Bradenton Market is off due to a winter storm that is forecast to bring heavy wind and rain to the Tampa Bay area on Saturday.

The event will return on Dec. 23 when Mayor Santa and First Lady Claus will be at the market, according to a news release.

The Downtown Bradenton Public Market is a colorful community gathering on Old Main Street in downtown Bradenton that is hosted by local nonprofit Realize Bradenton. It brings regional growers, crafters, artisans, chefs and musicians to town for a collection of talent to be observed and goods to be purchased.

But while the market will return soon, the weather spoiled this Saturday’s holiday fun.

The National Weather Service of Tampa Bay expects showers and a possible thunderstorm after 8 a.m. Saturday, with the chance of precipitation listed as 100% in their forecast. New rainfall amounts are expected to be between 1 and 2 inches.

Expect winds between 18 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph, through the day, and 40 mph at night.

Saturday’s high will be around 73 and the low 64.

The impacts of the winter storm may linger throughout the weekend, with Sunday expected to still be windy with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

But Monday is expected to be sunny and breezy, according to forecasts by the National Weather Service of Tampa Bay.

The Bradenton Market isn’t the only local event having to make adjustments due to the weather.

The Bradenton Police Department’s Fill The Truck toy drive announced Friday morning that the event will now be drive-through only due to Saturday’s forecast.

They posted to social media that donations will be collected under the covered entrance to to the Municipal Auditorium at the back of the Bradenton Police Department and City Hall at 100 10th St. W from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
