Shots fired into Palmetto area home — and one person injured, Manatee sheriff says
Detectives are investigating after gunshots fired into a Palmetto area home left one person injured on Wednesday morning, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The shooting happened around 8 a.m. in the 3700 block of 37th Street East, the sheriff’s office said. The home is near Ellenton Gillette Road, northeast of Palmetto and west of Ellenton.
The sheriff’s office said an unknown person fired multiple times into the home, and a bullet hit a 47-year-old man inside in the leg. The wound was not life-threatening, and he was taken to the hospital.
A 10-year-old girl inside the home got a minor cut on her toe that may have been caused by the gunfire, the sheriff’s office said. She was treated and released.
Citing Marsy’s Law, a Florida law that prevents the release of a victim’s identifying information, the sheriff’s office did not name the shooting victims.
The sheriff’s office said detectives are following “several leads” and believe the shooting was targeted, not random.
