Manatee High student faces criminal charges after school shooting threat on Snapchat
An unidentified student at Manatee High School is under arrest and facing criminal charges after police say they threatened a school shooting.
According to a release, the Bradenton Police Department received a tip from the FBI on Thursday night that the student had posted a school shooting threat on Snapchat.
Officers arrived at the campus before school began to detain and arrest the student.
“The student admits to posting, and later deleting, the threat on social media,” the police said in a statement. “However, all threats of this nature are taken seriously.”
No weapons were found on the student, police said. Further details on the pending charges were not immediately available Friday afternoon.
“(The) Bradenton Police Department expresses gratitude to the person who reported the threat to law enforcement,” Meredith Frameli, a public information officer with BPD, wrote in an email to the Bradenton Herald. “We remind everyone to ‘see something, say something.’
