Update 3 p.m. April 14: 18-year-old Cameron Leron Evans from Sarasota was arrested by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office at his home, Holmes Beach police tweeted. All of the suspects in this case have been arrested.
Update 5 p.m. March 30: The 17-year-old has been arrested, Holmes Beach police tweeted just after 3:30 p.m. Evans is still wanted.
Arrest warrants have been issued for two teenage boys, and a third has been arrested, after a group of teens assaulted a man while walking his dog with his 10-year-old niece on Anna Maria’s elementary school campus last week, Holmes Beach Police said Wednesday in a press release.
Cameron Leron Evans, an 18-year-old teen from Sarasota, a 17-year-old from Ellenton, and another juvenile who was not named, have all are facing a charge of aggravated battery. The Bradenton Herald generally does not identify minors accused of crimes.
The police have not yet arrested the teens and consider them a danger to the community because of the violent nature of the crime.
The attack happened around 9 p.m. March 23, when the 41-year-old man from Holmes Beach confronted a group of teens “drinking and possibly vandalizing” the school.
He pulled out a pocket knife, but male teens in the group knocked him to the ground, punched and kicked him, and hit him with an object, possibly a skateboard, until he was unconscious, police said.
The man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but soon listed in stable condition. Police did not provide an update on his condition Wednesday. The niece was uninjured.
If anyone spots the wanted teens, contact your local police department. Do not approach them, the release said.
Holmes Beach police and other local law enforcement agencies are working to track down the teens.
