More than two months after a Parrish woman was shot to death in her home, a man who also lived in the home has been charged with manslaughter, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Blake Meadows, 33, was arrested on a warrant Thursday afternoon charging him with manslaughter with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Meadows was careless in handling a handgun that discharged on Sept. 13, striking the 30-year-old woman who was home with him at the time. The home is located in the 4200 block of Cottage Hill Avenue in the Silverleaf community.

The sheriff’s office is still not identifying the victim’s or the relationship between the two, citing that the family has invoked Marsy’s Law — victims’ rights legislation that was enacted in 2018 in Florida that protects a victim’s identity from being made public.

A neighbor in the quiet Parrish subdivision had heard the gunshot and ran to the home and did CPR until first-responders arrived to take over. The victim died at the scene, however.

Later that day, two children, ages 1 and 4, were taken from the home by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, who handles child welfare investigations for the Florida Department of Children and Families in Manatee County. The children were placed in the care of family members.
