Arraignment set for suspect facing murder charge in Manatee intersection shooting

The Bradenton man charged with murder after allegedly shooting another man this week following an argument will be arraigned Nov. 5 at the Manatee County Judicial Center, according to court records.

Nicholas Anthony Koontz, 23, is being held without bond, court records show.

Koontz had his first court appearance Wednesday and was appointed a public defender.

According to the arrest report, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call late Tuesday morning to investigate a shooting at Seventh Avenue West and 50th Court West in Bradenton.

Timothy P. Andricks, 31, was found lying in the roadway by deputies with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

A witness told detectives Koontz drove up, in a black SUV, behind Andricks, who was in a silver Toyota Camry, before abruptly stopping. According to the arrest report, Andricks was traveling at a high rate of speed when he stopped at a stop sign with Koontz following closely behind.

“Timothy exits the Camry, with nothing in his hands, and starts walking back towards the black SUV,” the arrest report said.

The records stated Koontz left his vehicle and allegedly fired multiple shots at Andricks before returning to his vehicle and driving to a nearby residence.

Detectives arrived at the residence of Koontz’s father, and questioned him, the arrest report said. Koontz’s father said “his son arrived at the residence and was visibly upset,” according to the arrest report.

A second witness told detectives that Koontz started moving vehicles out of the driveway after he arrived, and parked his black SUV in the fenced-in area of the residence not visible to the street, according to arrest records.

Casings from a 9mm gun were found in the roadway of the scene, arrest records show.

It is not known why Koontz allegedly shot Andricks or whether they were involved in a prior altercation. Police have not commented on whether the shooting was the result of road rage.

Speaking with the Bradenton Herald on Tuesday afternoon, neighbors said they heard the gunshots from inside their homes. One resident was able to capture the entire incident on his video doorbell camera.

“It’s just stupid road rage. That kind of stuff doesn’t happen in this neighborhood,” said another resident who declined to share his name.

Another neighbor who lives five houses down from the intersection where the shooting happened said she was shocked to hear that someone was shot dead in the neighborhood.

“My husband and I were just talking about how quiet and nice it is here,” she said. “I hope we never have to see anything like this ever again. This isn’t a neighborhood like that.”
