Bradenton man charged in shooting of a co-worker at Lakewood Ranch moving company

A Bradenton man who detectives say shot a co-worker during an argument on the loading dock of a Lakewood Ranch moving company has surrendered after being on the run for more than two days, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Courtenay Dantae Johnson, 31, turned himself in to the Manatee County jail on Monday afternoon and was charged with attempted murder.

At 10:07 a.m. Saturday, deputies were called to reports of a shooting at Davie & Valenti Movers, 3125 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Unit 104. When they arrived, they found a man shot several times.

The victim, who will be 33 years old Tuesday, was taken to Blake Medical Center and underwent surgery. As of Monday morning, he was reported to be in stable condition.

Johnson had last been seen leaving in a white Ford Expedition with a Mississippi tag headed north toward State Road 64 before deputies arrived, according to the sheriff’s office. Witnesses told deputies that Johnson and his co-worker were arguing on a loading dock on the west side of the moving company when they heard shots.

The white Expedition Johnson was driving was later found abandoned in a field in the 2100 block of 6th Avenue East in Bradenton.
