Bradenton man shot to death at homeless camp. Cops are looking for his nephew

Manatee County detectives are looking for a 25-year-old man who they say shot his uncle to death in a Bradenton homeless camp early Saturday.

Deputies say they responded to a 911 call at a homeless camp in a wooded area in the 1700 block of 57th Avenue East at around 12:30 a.m.. The caller told dispatchers his brother had been shot in the head.

Deputies arrived to find Robert Laycock, 52, dead from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Deputies say they discovered that Laycock’s nephew, David Laycock, had fired multiple rounds in the wooded area where he, his uncle and father were staying at the camp.

“One of which struck Robert in the head,” the sheriff’s office said.

David Laycock, upon realizing he had shot his uncle, ran from the scene, detectives.

David Laycock is currently wanted on a second-degree murder warrant.

Anyone with information can call the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office at 941-747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at 866-634-TIPS.
