Two Bradenton men exchanged shots. One is dead, the other is in the hospital

A 51-year-old man was shot dead in East Bradenton on Sunday after shooting another man during a domestic-related incident.

At about 11:20 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a 911 call of a reported shooting in the 1800 block of 13th Avenue East, spokesman Capt. Brian Thiers said.

Demetris Bryant had shot Soloman Williams over a domestic incident, according to Thiers. Williams shot back, killing Bryant, Thiers said.

Bryant died at the scene and Williams was rushed to a local hospital to be treated for his gunshot wounds. He was listed in stable condition, according to Thiers.

“They shot each other,” Thiers said of Bryant and Williams. “They know each other. This wasn’t random.”

Police won’t comment on whether the Bryant’s death is being considered an act of self-defense. The multi-agency Manatee Homicide Investigative Unit is investigating the shooting in consultation with the State Atttorney’s Office.
