Bradenton man charged with attempted murder for near-fatal stabbing at motel
A 42-year-old man known as “Ghost” is facing an attempted murder charge after he tried to stab another man to death, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say Gregory Mitchell almost succeeded when he “narrowly missed” the victim’s heart at about 10 p.m. Thursday night.
According to the arrest report, the victim was confronting a female over a vehicle tag that had been removed from his vehicle at Budget Inn, 8110 N. Tamiami Trail.
While arguing with the female who was sitting inside another vehicle, deputies say Mitchell, who was also inside her vehicle, stabbed the victim in the chest through the window.
The victim was stabbed twice before the female drove away with the victim hanging onto the car, deputies say. Mitchell then sliced the victim’s fingers “to the bone,” at which time he fell into the roadway.
Deputies were able to locate the vehicle in the 4700 block of 14th Street West where Mitchell was taken into custody.
All three individuals involved are known to one another and the female told deputies that Mitchell swung a, “really big, really sharp,” knife at the victim, according to the report.
Mitchell was booked into the Manatee County jail early Friday morning where he remains in custody on a $150,000 bond. Deputies say he was already wanted on multiple probation violations related to previous weapons, theft and drug charges.
