Manatee County man charged with sexually assaulting a child

A 51-year-old Manatee County man’s years of sexually assaulting a child has caught up to him, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say Eddie Deveaux couldn’t escape his past despite making several moves around Florida over the past few years.

According to the arrest warrant, Deveaux began molesting the child in 2008 and the crimes intensified over the next two years to rape.

The revelations of the sexual abuse were revealed in the summer of 2019 while Deveaux was living in Calhoun County. The Snead Police Department contacted the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office where the alleged crimes occurred and an investigation was launched.

Over the course of the investigation, Deveaux moved to Jackson County and multiple law enforcement agencies continued to investigate, doing interviews and executing DNA warrants.

DNA results came back on May 6 from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and an arrest warrant was issued.

Deveaux was taken into custody on May 11 and booked into the Manatee County jail on charges of sexually assaulting a child and molesting a child. He remains in custody on bonds totaling $150,000.
