Bradenton man charged with kidnapping and robbing elderly man

A 41-year-old Bradenton man is charged with kidnapping, assaulting and robbing a 78-year-old man, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say Robert Alan Davis was living with the victim in an unofficial caretaker capacity.

When the victim realized Davis was stealing money from him, the victim cut Davis off from his bank account. That’s when Davis became “enraged,” according to the arrest report.

Deputies say Davis on May 2 threatened to kill the elderly man if the victim didn’t drive him to a nearby ATM where Davis forced the victim to remain in the car while he withdrew cash for himself.

The location of the crime was redacted from the arrest report.

Davis drove the victim home and later that evening demanded more money, according to the report.

Deputies say when the victim refused, Davis threatened the elderly man with a baseball bat, pushed him to the ground and began choking him.

A witness who pulled Davis from the victim told deputies that Davis was still screaming at the victim with statements like, “I’ll kill you. You had better get it right.”

Davis was booked into the Manatee County jail on May 3 and charged with unarmed robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping and battery on a person over the age of 65. Davis remains in custody on bonds totaling $16,500.
