They hid loaded gun under baby stroller while their child was in it, Sarasota cops say
A Sarasota couple is in jail after police found a loaded gun hidden under their baby stroller while their infant child was inside it.
According to the Sarasota Police Department, Mikayla Gibbs, 19, and Kori Quick, 24, were walking their infant child on Wednesday in the 2200 block of Ringling Boulevard when they approached someone sleeping in a chair in an alleyway.
The victim told police that Gibbs had assaulted him the prior day and on this occasion, Quick began an argument with him and began punching him. Police say when the victim attempted to get his phone out, Quick yelled out to Gibbs to give him her gun.
The victim was able to escape and called 911.
Police made contact with Gibbs and Quick a short time later as the couple were walking to their home in the 2000 block of Adams Lane.
Police say they located a loaded 9mm handgun with one round chambered, underneath the stroller while their infant child was sitting inside it.
The Department of Children and Family Services took custody of the child and police arrested the couple.
Gibbs is charged with aggravated assault with a weapon. Quick is charged with the same crime, as well as felony child neglect.
