Bradenton man charged in violent sexual assault in Sarasota

A 25-year-old Bradenton man is facing several felony charges after a violent sexual assault, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say Amaury Fernandez sexually battered a woman and beat her until she was unconscious.

Deputies were called to a Sarasota apartment after receiving a call from the victim’s mother that her daughter had been raped and knocked unconscious. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies immediately noticed “significant’ injuries, including marks on her neck where she had been choked.

Fernandez was booked into the Sarasota County jail on Tuesday and remains in custody without bond. His charges include sexual battery, domestic battery by strangulation, burglary and false imprisonment.

According to the arrest report, the attack took place just before noon Monday.

The victim is known to Fernandez, but the nature of their relationship was redacted from the report The report does state that the victim’s new boyfriend was at the home when Fernandez began banging on the door. The victim told her boyfriend to run and he did, according to the report.

Fernandez gained access through the unlocked door and began to beat her, sexually assaulted her and then beat her unconscious, deputies say. According to the report, Fernandez waited for her to wake up and then beat her unconscious again.
