She thought this Bradenton man was helping her. He raped her instead, cops say

An 18-year-old Bradenton man is charged with sexually assaulting a female after she thought he was initially trying to help her, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say Keyonte Cummings attacked the victim behind a business in the 5800 block of Cortez Road.

According to the arrest warrant, the victim got into an argument with another female and walked away from the residence. Cummings followed her in a false attempt to comfort her, deputies say.

Cummings led the victim behind the business where he choked and sexually assaulted her and after the attack said she, “could go now,” according to the warrant.

Deputies say the attack occurred on March 14, according to the warrant made available to the Bradenton Herald on Thursday.

Deputies searched for Cummings throughout the day on March 14, but were unable to locate him. A warrant was issued the following day and Cummings was arrested on Wednesday.

He was booked into the Manatee County jail and remains in custody on a $200,000 bond pending a future court date.
