Love triangle leads to one Bradenton man cutting the throat of another, cops say

Romance, violence and knife attacks have plagued residents that live together in the 1000 block of 60th Avenue West as of late, according to court records.

On March 2, an attack ended with one man having his throat cut and a 72-year-old man arrested, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

William Kennedy was charged with felony using a deadly weapon, but within 24 hours would not be the only one in jail for using a knife.

Deputies say Kennedy and the victim were with two other women and that they both have “romantic feelings,” for one of the women. When the victim was arguing with the woman who is the subject of their affection, Kennedy punched him and then grabbed a steak knife, according to the arrest report.

Deputies say Kennedy swung the knife at the victim, slashing him across his neck and causing a superficial wound. The victim was able to escape to call 911 and was transported to the hospital for his injury. Kennedy was arrested without incident.

The victim was treated and released the following day. He returned home on March 3, and at some point grabbed a, “thick kitchen, chopping style blade,” and proceeded to chase both women from the home with the knife, threatening their lives, according to the sheriff’s office.

The women were able to flag down a passing fire truck and 911 was called. Deputies arrived and arrested Patrick Slattery, 58, and charged him with two counts of aggravated assault.

Both Kennedy and Slattery remain in custody pending a future court date. Kennedy is being held on a $7,500 bond and Slattery’s bonds total $200,000.
