Bradenton student posted photos of her ‘flexing’ a gun. She shot a boy with it, cops say

A 14-year-old student at Bayshore High School in Bradenton has been charged with second-degree attempted murder after she shot a 16-year-old boy in Sarasota, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

Police say Sha’Miya Williams, was arrested on Thursday, a day after the shooting. The Bradenton Herald is publishing her name because it was released by police and because of the seriousness of the charge.

Police responded to the 1700 block of 23rd Street in Sarasota about 9 p.m. Wednesday and found the victim with gunshot wounds. He is expected to survive.

Police say Williams fired “multiple” rounds, with two rounds striking the victim, in the upper right leg and left arm.

Police found nine spent 9mm casings in the roadway in front of the victim’s house.

According to witnesses, the victim left the residence and was talking to a female and a second person when Williams approached the end of the driveway holding a pistol. The report states Williams walked up and opened fire.

The victim was able to be interviewed on Thursday and corroborated the witnesses’ account.

According to the report, the victim initially told police that he didn’t know Williams, but then acknowledged that he had known her for about five years. He said he seen social media posts from Williams showing her “flexing” with a handgun and that it was the same gun she used to shoot him, according to police.

Police say the motive behind the shooting was a social media argument between the two.
