Bradenton man, 19, charged with beating up a 75-year-old, cops say

A 19-year-old Manatee County man is behind bars for attacking and beating up a 75-year-old in the area of Ninth Street West and Orlando Avenue Monday evening, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies say James Hogan was arguing with a female in the area as the victim was walking near the scene. Hogan disengaged from the female as the victim was walking back to his house and deputies say, for no apparent reason, Hogan began yelling at the victim.

The victim, who had arrived back to his own property at that point, told Hogan to move on, at which time Hogan, “got in his face and started yelling at him,” some more, according to the arrest report.

A neighbor came out to try and calm the situation, at which time Hogan punched the neighbor and then attacked the elderly victim, striking, “him in the face several times,” according to the report.

Witnesses on the scene confirmed the incident and deputies were able to locate Hogan through his social media profile and a recent arrest for domestic violence.

Hogan was booked into the Manatee County jail the following day on charges of felony battery on a person over the age of 65 and misdemeanor battery. As of Thursday morning, Hogan was still in custody on bonds totaling $2,000, according to jail records.
