He put a gun to the victim’s head, cops say. There were five juveniles in the home

A 41-year-old Bradenton man faces an armed robbery charge after a putting a gun to a man’s head and demanding all of his money at a home where Manatee County deputies say at least five children were staying.

According to an arrest warrant, Jeremy Barnett was arrested the day after a Jan. 11 standoff with deputies as Barnett hid in a house in the 5700 block of 18th Street West.

Deputies say Barnett had an all-day argument with the victim about money and when the victim came to the home, was met by Barnett who grabbed him by the throat and pushed him into a bathroom door.

Barnett pulled out a gun and placed it to the victim’s head, demanding all of his money, according to the warrant. Barnett grabbed the victim’s cellphone, at which time the victim was able to escape the home, but Barnett caught up to him and again put the gun to the victim’s head, deputies say.

Others in the home managed to sway Barnett to put the gun down at which time the victim again ran away from the area and later contacted law enforcement, according to the warrant.

Deputies responded to the home and set up a perimeter, and made several attempts to get someone to open the door.

According to the warrant, no one did for some time and someone inside the home began to turn off lights.

About a half hour into the standoff, seven people ;eft the home, including five juveniles who told deputies that they were delayed because Barnett told them they would have to find a new place to live if they opened the door, the warrant states.

Barnett, however, did not exit the home despite several attempts to get him to surrender.

At the time the warrant was issued, the standoff had continued, and Barnett was subsequently arrested the following day and booked into the Manatee County jail on an armed robbery charge.

He remains in custody on a $25,000 bond.
