Bradenton woman, 80, seriously injured in crash. The suspect fled on foot, FHP says

Florida Highway Patrol investigators say they need help identifying a man who fled the scene of a crash that sent an 80-year-old woman to the hospital with serious injuries.

Around 3:45 p.m. Friday, troopers say a person driving a Volkswagon Jetta was heading southbound on Eighth Street East, approaching 49th Avenue Drive East in the Golf Lakes Motor Home Park when he struck the right side of a golf cart. The cart was parked, and also facing southbound, while the victim was collecting mail.

The victim, an 80-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Blake Medical Center, according to a crash report.

The driver of the Jetta, who is believed to be a man in his early 30s, fled the scene on foot after his vehicle traveled off the road and into a palm tree.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact FHP at (941) 751-8350 or Manatee CrimeStoppers at (866) 634-8477 (TIPS).
