Bradenton student wanted to ‘put on a show.’ So he punched 67-year-old teacher, cops say

A King Middle School student was arrested has been charged with punching a 67-year-old teacher, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say the boy was part of a “large group of unruly students,” that the teacher was trying to redirect to a different location to get onto their buses after school on Dec. 11.

The student was “defiant and disrespectful” of the female teacher, “while putting on a show to the other students,” according to the report, which became available Thursday.

As the teacher continued an attempt to get the students to move to the correct location, the student balled his fist and punched the teacher on her arm, causing “slight pain and tenderness,” the report states.

The student then ran onto his bus, where he was located by the school’s resource officer and arrested on a battery charge.

The student was transported and booked into the Manatee County juvenile facility.
