Bradenton man robbed Sarasota McDonald’s, cops say. Video of his escape helped ID him

A 28-year-old Bradenton man is charged with robbery after police say he threatened employees at a Sarasota McDonald’s.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, Montez Diegert entered the restaurant at 3511 Fruitville Road around 2:27 p.m. on Wednesday before slipping a cashier a note that warned he would start shooting if they didn’t give him cash.

Video surveillance of the event shows Diegert sticking his hand under his shirt and implying that he had a gun, according to an arrest report. Then, the cashier put about $162 in cash in a bag and handed it to Diegert, cops said.

A witness caught the robbery on video, too, detectives say. The cell phone video showed exactly where Diegert touched the glass door on his way out of the McDonald’s. Traffic cameras in the area also showed Diegert leaving the store and riding a bicycle eastbound on Fruitville Road.

Police were able to collect Diegert’s fingerprints from the door, identifying a positive match with Diegert. He was arrested and charged with one count of robbery Friday morning. He is being held at the Sarasota County Jail on $75,000 bond.
