Two Sarasota boys were playing with a gun. One of them was shot in the face

An 11-year-old boy is recovering after he was shot in the face while playing with a gun with a 12-year-old boy, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 3:40 p.m. Sunday, deputies were called to the 3000 block of McCloud Circle in Sarasota to a report of the boy being shot.

The boys had been playing with the gun when it discharged and a bullet went through the 11-year-old’s cheek, according to a news release. He was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital where he remains.

The boy is expected to fully recover.

Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office detectives are trying to determine the owner of the gun.
