Bradenton man shot his girlfriend, police say. Last year, he was charged with choking her

Last year, a Bradenton man was charged with battery after he reportedly choked his girlfriend — a charge which she later dropped, according to court records. He is now accused of shooting her on Easter Sunday.

De Undie D. Dunn, 30, is charged with attempted murder in the Sunday night shooting of his 34-year-old girlfriend, in the 1800 block of First Avenue East, according to Bradenton police. He is being held without bond at the Manatee County jail.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting and found the woman with a gunshot wound to her upper body. She is in critical condition at Blake Medical Center, police said.

Dunn was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery against the same woman last year, according to records.

The woman pressed charges after an altercation that occurred on Aug. 20. She told police that the disagreement turned violent when Dunn grabbed her by the neck and squeezed tightly, at which point she told her daughter to call 911.

According to a police report, Dunn and the victim were in an on-and-off relationship at the time. Dunn had recently moved back into the victim’s home and was living with her and her three children.

During the proceedings, Dunn failed to appear for a September court date. It was rescheduled for October, but records show that the charge was dropped before the newly appointed date.

The shooting remains under investigation.
