Police investigate homicide after woman found dead inside north Sarasota home
The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred in a residential area on Wednesday evening.
The incident took place around 6 p.m. in the 900 block of 42nd Street in Sarasota.
The victim is a woman described to be in her late 40s, Sarasota police spokeswoman Genevieve Judge said during a news conference. The woman was discovered inside a residence.
The woman's identity has not been released pending the investigation.
Police say that just after 6 p.m. they received a call to assist Sarasota County Fire Department with an injured person.
But when officers arrived at the home the woman was already dead, Judge said.
Detectives say that evidence at the scene points to foul play.
While police do not believe the public is in danger, they do not have a suspect in custody yet.
"We are encouraging the public, that if you happened to be in this area any time in the last several hours or even in the last several days and maybe heard an argument to definitely give our detectives a call," Judge said.
Anyone with information can call the police department at (941)-315 1199.
