Florida woman stabbed more than 20 times. In Georgia, her brother asks cop to put him in handcuffs, sheriff says

Outside a Macon, Georgia, hospital around 6 p.m. Sunday, 39-year-old Christopher Horan walked up to a hospital police officer and asked to be placed in handcuffs, Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said.

Horan told the officer at Navicent Health he had killed his sister in her Florida apartment and was there to turn himself in, Gualtieri said in a Monday afternoon news conference.

Pinellas County deputies were contacted and went to Horan’s sister’s apartment in Dunedin. There, they found 42-year-old Leanna Horan dead, having been stabbed “well over” 20 times, Gualtieri said.

He added Horan’s family told officials Horan has mental health issues. Gualtieri said they have not found any record of Baker Acts for Horan in Pinellas County but he does have a minor criminal history.

Gualtieri described a gruesome crime scene. Leanna had been stabbed in her head, back and neck. One of the knives found at the apartment was bent.

According to Gualtieri, Horan told detectives he and his sister got into an argument around 7 p.m. Saturday. Horan wanted to leave but his sister, who officials say it seemed he had been staying with for a while, did not want him to go out.

While speaking with investigators, Horan said he stabbed his sister “too many” times, Gualtieri said.

Officials are still working to learn why Horan was in Macon, and where he was between his sister’s death Saturday night and turning himself in Sunday. But, they know how he got there.

Gualtieri said Leanna’s vehicle was found in the parking lot of the hospital where Horan turned himself in.

Horan remains in jail in Georgia, charged with second-degree murder with a $500,000 bond, according to Gualtieri.

The investigation is ongoing.
