Sarasota man faces attempted murder charge in drive-by shooting, deputies say
A man has been arrested and faces an attempted murder charge for his involvement in a shooting that occurred early Friday in Sarasota, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
Charles Dailey Jr., 33, of Sarasota, was arrested by deputies after they say video surveillance, witness accounts and the results of a search warrant identified him to be the shooter in an incident that occurred near the 2900 block of 17th Street and Lockwood Ridge Road.
Around 6 a.m., deputies received a call that a man fired several shots into another man’s vehicle before fleeing north on Lockwood Ridge Road.
The 31-year-old victim was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left shoulder.
The sheriff’s office reviewed surveillance video and based on statements made by the victim, detectives determined Dailey was a likely suspect due to an altercation he had with the man on Jan. 15.
Video surveillance from that day at Washington Food Mart, where the victim works and left moments before he was shot Friday, shows Dailey in a verbal altercation with the man before driving away in a car identical to the one reported in Friday’s shooting. The victim told deputies the dispute stemmed from an incident that happened more than a year ago and involved a female acquaintance.
Dailey was arrested Monday and booked into Sarasota County Jail on a charge of attempted murder with bail set at $250,000, according to jail records.
