This iguana was shot with four arrows. But it still had plenty of fight left

As if iguanas don’t have enough to worry about, what with another big chill heading to Florida, feisty feral cats eyeballing them as playthings, or your own disgust at what they do to your yard, one unlucky big lizard was found shot in Plantation ...

... by four crossbow arrows, WPLG Local 10 reported.

The iguana was rescued Wednesday by Daniel Drake, a wildlife rescuer with Jungle Birds R’ Us. He found the wounded iguana in the area of North Nob Hill Road and West Broward Boulevard in Plantation.

The iguana was spotted two days earlier with four arrows going through its body — one had broken off on its side, another penetrated the bottom of its belly, one was in the bottom of its head and one in the leg.

Drake told the station the iguana was probably shot out of a tree because the arrows were all in an upward trajectory.

He didn’t have an easy time catching the iguana. Drake tried on Tuesday, but it took off.

“He could run, swim, eat like he’s 100 percent fine, and he just had arrows sticking everywhere out of him,” Drake told the Sun Sentinel. Drake was finally able to reach the tough lizard Wednesday morning by climbing up a tree and dragging him down.

The iguana was taken to the South Florida Wildlife Center for treatment, but it’s not certain whether it will survive its injuries. A suspect hasn’t been found. Animal cruelty is a crime.
