Bradenton man convicted of aggravated battery in 2016 shooting
A Bradenton man was convicted of aggravated battery and violation of probation and was sentenced to 50 years in prison for shooting and injuring a man in 2016, according to the state attorney’s office.
Manuel Lebron-Jimenez, 23, was sentenced by a jury on Dec. 13 after authorities say he shot another man over a past dispute with a .25 caliber firearm on Aug. 29, 2016.
The case was investigated by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Jimenez fled the scene without seeking help for the man, authorities said. The man was able to reach the nearest home, knocked on a door and asked the resident to call 911. He was taken to the hospital where he had to have extensive abdominal surgery, authorities said.
The sheriff’s violent crimes task force obtained the casing and firearm that was used in the shooting. Analysis found Jimenez’ DNA on the gun, investigators said.
“We appreciate the jury’s dedication and careful deliberations in this case,” state attorney Ed Brodsky said. “Based on the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and the particularly hard work and follow up by the Violent Crimes Task Froce of the MCSO, our community will now be a safer place.”
