Deputies search for man who allegedly shot 62-year-old woman

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a man wanted for the attempted murder of a 62-year-old woman.

Deputies say Jahmari McCray, 27, shot the woman around 5:15 a.m. Dec. 10 at Circle K, 1108 Spirit Lake Road, Winter Haven, while she sat in her car in the parking lot. She was not robbed.

McCray fled on foot, according to the sheriff’s office. He was later positively identified. The suspect is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 180 pounds.

According to deputies, McCray has been placed in Polk County Jail three separate times on burglary, grand theft, petit theft and narcotics charges.

Detectives have obtained a warrant for McCray’s arrest for carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, discharging a firearm in public and attempted murder.

Deputies say McCray is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Central District at (863) 297-1100. Tipsters may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward by calling Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS.
