Officer used stun gun to control student after fight at school, reports say
After a brawl broke out at a Pinellas County school Thursday, one student was electronically subdued by police.
A school resource officer assigned to Morgan Fitzgerald Middle School was called to a fight between two students in the bus area around 4 p.m., according to WTSP.
One of the female students involved in the fight “refused to comply with the commands” of the officer and tried to continue to fight with the other female student, the Pinellas Park Police Department said in a statement to WTSP.
Tracey Singleton heard the fight from his nearby auto shop and told WFLA News Channel 8 that he heard the officer yell “get on the ground” several times.
The girl began to resist the officer, threatened to hit him and tried to run away, the department stated.
The officer then used his stun gun to control the student, according to police.
She suffered minor injuries from the fight, according to WTSP. She was released to her mother and the state attorney’s office will consider if charges will be filed, WFLA reported.
The second female student involved in the fight was able to get on a school bus before the officer caught up with her, but school officials called her home, according to WFLA.
