Detectives search for second suspect in home invasion
Detectives are searching for a second man they say was involved in an armed home invasion that occurred in June at a Lakewood Ranch residence, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Joseph D. Capozzi, 20, is wanted on a warrant for his participation in the June 19 robbery that involved three other men, according to the sheriff’s office. One of the suspects, 20-year-old Robert Baylis, was arrested at the scene. The other two – and Capozzi – remain at large, deputies said.
The robbery happened around 3:22 a.m. on June 19.
Eight people between the ages of about 18 and 30 were hanging out at a house in the 13000 block of Glossy Ibis Place when four assailants armed with long guns barged in through an unlocked sliding door, according to deputies.
It wasn’t known exactly what was taken during the robbery, but Baylis was arrested at the scene.
When deputies arrived, there was a strong odor of burnt marijuana, according to the sheriff’s office. The incident appeared to be drug-related, detectives said.
Anyone with information on Capozzi’s whereabouts can call the sheriff’s office at 941-747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at 866-634-TIPS.
