Federal jury finds Sarasota man guilty of firearm and ammunition charges
A federal jury has found a Sarasota man guilty of possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.
Michael Moore, 35, faces a minimum-mandatory term of 15 years, up to life, in federal prison for removing a loaded firearm from his girlfriend’s car and then trying to hide it at a friend’s house in May 2017.
On May 28, Moore had an altercation with his girlfriend, according to reports, and took out a loaded firearm from underneath the driver’s seat of her car. When his girlfriend reported him to police for stealing her gun, he hid the weapon at a friend’s house. After his girlfriend agreed to drop the report against him, Moore retrieved the loaded gun and returned it to her.
He was indicted on July 18. During the trial, he admitted to possessing the firearm. As a previously convicted felon, Moore is prohibited from having a firearm or ammunition under federal law.
