A Clearwater police officer was stabbed while trying to arrest a suspect who was accused of beating a woman, according to Bay News 9.

The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday in the Marina parking lot at 37 Causeway Boulevard, based on a press release from the Clearwater Police Department.

Justin Shuford, 36, was allegedly beating a female and then started to act aggressively to people coming to the woman’s aid.

When officers arrived and attempted to apprehend Shuford, he used a small concealed knife to stab one officer and cut two others.

Shuford faces charges of attempted homicide, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence and domestic battery.

There was no word on the condition of the officers.
