Manhunt underway for Florida murder suspect

The U.S. Marshals Service is searching for a man suspected of raping and killing a 16-year-old girl in Sumter County.

The body was found around 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at a residence in Bushnell, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect, Larry Peavy Jr., was last seen in St. Lucie County.

St. Lucie deputies discovered his 1997 gray Nissan Sentra in Ft. Pierce, but he fled before they responded to the area.

Peavy, 35, has active warrants and is wanted for kidnapping, sexual assault with a weapon, facilitation of kidnapping and first-degree murder.

The Marshals Service says that there’s a possibility that Peavy cut his hair and is still in the Ft. Pierce area. If spotted, officials urged the public to call 911.
