This Girl Scout bookkeeper stole enough money to buy 14,000 boxes of cookies. Now she’ll serve 30 months for it
A former bookkeeper for the Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida Inc. was sentenced to 30 months in prison Tuesday for embezzling $85,000 from the organization.
Stephanie Person must also pay $112,158.20 and serve 27 years of probation after her sentence. According to court documents, she re-routed the funds from an active troop account into an inactive one.
Several Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast officials testified against her during the trial.
“We thank law enforcement and the Girl Scouts organization for their efforts and cooperation in successfully prosecuting the defendant for this crime,” said Assistant State Attorney Dan Yuter. “This money would have been used to further the Girl Scouts numerous programs for the development of leadership skills for young women, and the defendant chose to steal this money for her own personal benefit.”
