It is not known how long the devices, which are used to steal information about the card and the cardholder, have been on the pumps at the gas station, formerly known as the Dodge Store. However, police said the pumps were last inspected on April 3.
The owner of the store told police he didn’t know of the devices and he had not received any complaints from customers. He added the pumps were installed about a year ago.
Those who have bought gas at the station recently should keep an eye on their bank accounts for any suspicious transactions, Sarasota police advised. If suspicious activity arises, customers should contact their bank.
Anyone with information on the case can call the Sarasota Police Department at 941-316-1199 or Crime Stoppers at 941-366-TIPS or online at www.sarasotacrimestoppers.com.
