13-year-old carjacked, abducted woman, cops say
A 13-year-old boy was arrested after police say he stole a car in Lake City, taking the vehicle’s elderly owner along with him.
The 67-year-old woman told deputies with the Columbia County Sheriff’s office the boy approached her asking for a ride while she was unloading groceries at her house Tuesday, First Coast News reported.
She told him no and he left, but the teen came back with what officials later determined to be a pellet gun, showed it to her and took her keys, according to the sheriff’s office.
He struggled to start the car, so she jumped in. The teen threatened to shoot her if she got out and drove away. The woman called 911 and was able to tell dispatchers where the car was going.
Police were able to find the vehicle and immobilize the vehicle to stop the teenaged driver, according to the sheriff’s office.
“I was scared to death. I think I was actually in shock. I just couldn't believe it was happening,” the carjacking victim told WPTV. “So thankful that it turned out the way that it did because it could’ve been so much worse. I mean, several people could’ve been killed — him, me, and others. He had no regard for anybody in that car.”
The 13-year-old boy is facing charges that include carjacking and abduction, according to the sheriff’s office.
