A Ruskin school teacher was arrested Friday and resigned from her position with the school after she was caught having sex with a student, according to reports.

Caroline Lawson, 29, had a high school student at her Tampa apartment Wednesday afternoon where they had consensual sex, ABC Action News reported, citing the arrest affidavit.

Hillsborough County jail records show Lawson was arrested Friday on two charges of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Lawson sent text messages later that evening that said, “I cheated on jameson... with a student,” ABC Action News reported.

The person she was texting asked if Lawson meant she slept with the student to which Lawson replied yes, according to ABC Action News.

Investigators met with the student who identified Lawson as his English teacher at Earl J. Lennard High School in Ruskin and confirmed they had sexual intercourse, according to ABC Action News.

Hillsborough County Schools said in a statement: “We are deeply disappointed by these charges. The safety of our students is our top priority. We are working with law enforcement as they investigate. This employee has resigned her position with the district.”

Lawson was released from jail early Friday morning after posting a $30,000 bond.
