FHP searches for hit-and-run driver in fatal crash

A 27-year-old man was killed Tuesday night in North Fort Myers after being struck by two cars. One of the drivers fled the scene, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Brian Marinelli was walking southbound in the right lane of US 41, approaching North Fork Drive, when the unknown driver struck him and drove away around 10 p.m., according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Shortly afterward, a 68-year-old man driving a 2016 Chrysler 300 struck Marinelli as well. Marinelli was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges have been filed at this time. However, an investigation is underway to find the driver of the first vehicle. Deputies say that the car sustained front and windshield damage.

Anyone with information about the crash or details about the runaway vehicle can call FHP at (239) 938-1800.
