Punches escalated to a stabbing Monday afternoon in Ruskin, leaving one man dead, according to reports.

An argument between roommates 26-year-old Angel Calix and 22-year-old Derick Avila started in the kitchen of their home in the 1100 block of Windton Oak Drive Monday, according to Bay News 9.

The two men exchanged punches. Then Calix grabbed as many as three knives and tried to stab Avila in the neck and chest, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office detectives told Bay News 9. Calix was able to grab Avila’s shirt and stab him in the chest with one of the knives.

Avila tried to get help from a neighbor as Calix ran from the house, according to Bay News 9.

Avila was found in the driveway and taken to South Bay Hospital to be treated for stab wounds but was later pronounced dead, Bay News 9 reports.

Deputies received a 911 call around 5:14 p.m. Monday where the caller reported seeing a man lying in a pool of blood in a driveway, according to ABC Action News.

Calix is now wanted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for manslaughter.
