Man used false name for drug delivery, feds say
A 38-year-old Boynton Beach man using a fake name was arrested by a fake mailman after he signed for a package that contained nearly 3 pounds of “date rape drugs.”
“John Smith” said he was expecting a package on Oct. 11 when he met an undercover federal agent at an office space and signed for it. He was arrested later that day as he took the package to his car, the Palm Beach Post reports.
When officers searched Steven Labadie – “Smith’s” real name – and his office, they reportedly found oxycodone, ecstasy and aprazolam — a drug better known as Xanax. Labadie’s delivery contained 2.7 pounds of “liquid ecstasy,” or gamma-Butyrolactone, which was intercepted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
The package had been sent from Hong Kong and arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. It was slated to be delivered to “John Smith” of Lantana. However, Homeland Security stepped in and worked with local police to apprehend Labadie.
Labadie was arrested and faces multiple charges, including four counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and drug trafficking. He was released from Palm Beach County Jail Oct. 12 after posting bonds totaling $32,000.
